And we also deserve to indulge in the free things that our mere living enables: frolicking through the field even though we feel unfit, smiling wide even though we feel goofy-looking, taking a nap even though we feel stressed by the endless to-do list. You're right: Our states of living shouldn't constrain our joy. :)<br /><br />Also, research says that exhibiting the ability to delay gratification in childhood correlates with achieving intelligence and success in adulthood, so your childhood practice of resisting Halloween candy foreshadowed your later success.
